Subrata Ghosh did his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Being a passionate programmer, he achieved a major milestone by doing the Sun certified Java architect certification. He continued to focus on being an entrepreneur and chase his entrepreneurial dream. It was during his business exploration phase, that he stepped on a groundbreaking idea, which eventually led him to conceptualize Redstone Learning, which is a leading global ed-tech company of Indian origin, with offices in New York and the Middle East providing both, online and on-demand learning.
What inspired you to build the above product/ service?
We are living in an age of tumultuous change. Digitization, AI and globalization are disrupting the status quo at an unprecedented pace in every industry. If one looks at what is happening with Transportation (on-demand, electric, driver-less), Commerce (online, on-demand, personalized), Healthcare (AI assisted diagnosis), etc – the future is very uncertain, and yet full of opportunities for those who can adapt.
During my business exploration phase, I realized that there was a huge crisis building up for business and knowledge workers. Most professionals that I met across industry were concerned about the drastic changes in industry around them. They were worried that they would wake up one day and find themselves irrelevant. And most businesses, large and small, were worried about not having access to the right expertise to help them stay agile and ahead of the curve.
I felt what was needed was a platform for real-time, relevant expertise – thru a combination of top-notch experts, high quality and constantly evolving learning content, and delivery formats that follow the learner. That is the only way that business and individuals can cope. That is what Redstone Learning was built for.
What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?
Being a first-generation entrepreneur starting from India. Most of one’s critical learnings will come from mistakes made. It takes a strong and focused mind, to be able to persist and build something from scratch under these circumstances.

An entrepreneur needs a quick way to capture his thoughts and to-do reminders. So use any good note taking app on the mobile, e.g. Evernote.

Being able to prioritize well – I think this is one of the most important skills that entrepreneurs need to cultivate.

It is important to avoid getting distracted by interruptions that don’t add value and are outside of own’s control.

If you get a chance to start your career again what would you do differently this time?
Nothing. Any different path taken might not have led to any better results. What matters is giving 100% to the task at hand and enjoying the journey as it comes.
