Mohit Nayar is a true patriot, who works towards a better and efficient India by providing employment, which in turn reduces crime, increases education levels and thus promotes research and development which ultimately takes the country forward.
Mohit and his friend, Kunal, were sitting at a coffee shop discussing how do people actually find and contact lawyers. After realizing that it was almost impossible to know a Lawyer who specializes in a particular field of Law by any means, the duo conceptualized Lawyersofindia.com, which is a filtered online directory of Indian lawyers.
Please provide a brief overview of your product/ service.
Lawyersofindia.com is a Free online directory of Lawyers in India. From the Lawyers point of view, this can act as their virtual chamber while from the consumer’s point of view, this could be the solution from having to ask several friends for a Lawyer who actually specializes in a particular field of Law. Apart from City and Area of Expertise, we have given various filters for lawyer search whereby people can select an individual or a firm, male or female, language preference, court of practice, providing internships or not, handling pro-bono cases or not.
All these filters when coupled together create the most effective lawyer search that is available on the internet today. We want young lawyers to register themselves online by filling a small form which creates their profile. They can be visible to over 5 cr. people who search for a lawyer online in India every year. Nothing else can give them this kind of visibility. While all other legal tech websites charge the lawyers or public for information, we have made sure Lawyersofindia remains a free platform for all.
What inspired you to build the above product/ service?
One day Kunal (My Co-Founder), who happens to be a lawyer and I were sitting at a coffee shop discussing how do people actually find and contact lawyers. It came out that it was almost impossible to know a Lawyer who specializes in a particular field of Law by any means. It was then that this idea struck us that we could create a one-stop platform for finding lawyers, finding legal internships and free legal guidance, where ever applicable. 4 months later, Lawyersofindia.com was launched.
What is your life mantra?
Hard work beats Talent on any given day.
What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?
Decoding how to make our venture Legal; as Lawyers are not allowed to advertise or solicit through a website. We had to do a lot of study to make sure we do not make any legal error with respect to what can be put up online and what can’t.
How did you overcome those challenges?
It took us a couple of months of study coupled with discussions with various Bar Association Presidents to understand what all we can do and still manage to not cross legal boundaries. Unlike any other website which does not take this important factor into account, we do not give ratings or reviews from public end as it is in conflict with the rules of B.C.I. We have instead installed several filter options to make the process of finding a suitable lawyer as easy as we can.
Share some details about the investments that you have been able to fetch for the business till now.
Till now we have been boot-strapping with our own savings. We intend to raise a round of funding from Angel Investors to speed up our Enrollment program and reach out to more people online.
How do you protect yourself from the problem of Brain Drain?
Lawyersofindia still functions with a small team. All three co-founders are doing more than their respective domains at this stage. I had never worked on a designing software, but I learned it from Youtube tutorials and designed various parts of our website. I also write a lot of content. When you are boot-strapping, you have to play the part of a team yourself. We make sure whoever works with us grows as an individual as well. When you stop thinking about them as employees and start treating them as individuals, you will score better with them. We are a small team and we work like a family. Each one takes care of the other.
According to you, what are the three qualities an individual must have to achieve success?
The three most important qualities are Confidence, Perseverance, and Self-Belief.
Which online tools/ services/ apps do you use the most and would like to recommend as well?
I use Youtube a lot to learn new things every day. I’ve learnt designing, content marketing and several other qualities required to run a business, all by watching Youtube videos. It goes a long way than just showing you movie trailers.
Share any one habit which you think makes you more productive.
My public speaking skills. I won debates almost regularly at school/college and this has helped me a lot in the business world as well. It brings confidence in the team as well if you are able to talk through any situation.
Share any one habit which you wish to change in yourself.
I want to change my sleeping pattern. My body is currently living in the U.S time zone.

I would borrow some money from my father and invest in Facebook in 2004. Then start Lawyersofindia a couple of years earlier than I did this time.
