Karan always had an edge in competitive analysis, market research, business development and management. He has a BE in electrical engineering and an MBA in management. He started his career as a business analyst and gradually gained experience working in several roles. However, he had a constant thought in his mind of doing something of his own. Due to the booming ecommerce industry in India, he started to mull the idea of venturing in food tech business.
This is when he co-founded Butlrr, a virtual at-your-service platform which helps you choose where to eat, what to eat, place an order and pay the bill; all at the touch of your fingertips. Within a short span of few months, the startup has garnered a huge buzz. Karan aims to take Butlrr to greater heights in the food tech industry.
Please provide a brief overview of your product/ service.
Introducing Butlrr, it is a platform which increases dining expectations of diners and also helps restaurants to meet those expectations. Butlrr is a platform which will enable restaurants to achieve customer delight, which they strive for.
Do restaurants really understand their customers? What if they know the dining preferences and that too real-time? What if as soon as a customer enters a restaurant, they know her name, that she is coming there for the third time, what she ordered last time, what she liked, what she didn’t like? I mean such information which is nonexistent right now but can take a dining experience to the next level.
But then how do you achieve this? We found an answer to this in Butlrr. We gave birth to Butlrr as a virtual person who accompanies you when you are dining. It helps you order, tells you what you will like, and takes payment and all you can think of. In addition, in doing all this, it learns about your dining preferences, structures it in the form of data, takes out insights and presents them to the restaurant for them to use and give you the experience to remember.
What inspired you to build the above product/ service?
It is about creating value in terms of customer delight that too with food, in a native form, personalised for each individual. It is a drive from within to create a platform that can do such tremendous things.
What is your life mantra?
What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?
I believe challenges are a way to learn. I will describe something which challenged me the most as something where I learnt the most. They say you make your own ways when you step into unchartered territories. Building a platform, which is unique in itself, where you do not have references to draw from running businesses taught me a lot.

Clear vision with structured thinking: Breaking down any problem into small pieces and taking each bit one by one. Every problem has a solution; it is just the way you approach, it makes all the difference.

Getting carried away when people make you feel on the top of the world because that might just be the start and might not even realize that

Talk to as many people as you can. Just be wise enough to filter what you need and what you don’t.
What are your plans for next 3 years?
We want to become the Go-to solution for all dining needs by creating a seamless platform where restaurant and diners can get time relevant information to make better decisions. We plan to use data analytics to provide actionable insights to restaurants and enable the service of providing a great dining experience.

This will be too soon to change something. I might already be on the perfect path.
