The transition from school to college and, then to the professional journey is significant albeit difficult one. When you enter the professional world, daily bumps and bruises become the way of life. From tight deadlines to critical reviews, to deals gone awry, your professional field gives the taste of all. But, what matters most is, how bold you are in taking your decisions and what story you have got to tell others. Like any other field, analytics is also evolving at an amazing pace and has become one of the hottest fields of this era. And this industry harbors many, like coders, communicators, authors of technical publications, inventors, and storytellers.
Everyone who aims to scale up a business faces various highs and lows at various stages. The same applies to the world of analytics too. Ever wondered about the faces behind those sturdy professional walls? They are not just the number crunchers or consultants doing data all day; they are the people with deep and varied interests outside their analytics professions. It is their openness to their inner life, preference for their passions; great thirst for knowledge; and their willingness to take risks that make them the humans of analytics.
Breaking the stereotypes, making an impact
When we read someone’s story through the social lenses, we think so much about it that at one point we start living it. These stories can change the way we think and that’s what human connect is. Along the same vein, the analytics professionals come from different places, streams and they all carry a story with them. An analytics expert, therefore, can be a great painter or a pianist or a martial art artist too; he can be a prolific blogger, cricketer or a teacher who mentors many young talents or a theatre artist, who can make you fall in love with her dialogues, or else, he could be an inquisitive mind who can coax you to answer his unheard-of questions.
Human of Analytics (HoA) has collated many such stories. There is a story of a fearless daughter of a merchant navy veteran who didn’t let the rough patches affect her dreams despite encountering gender stereotypes. She is now one of the top influential analytics professionals paving the way for women to enter analytics. Then we have a story on a hardcore music nut who is now recognized as a data scientist evangelist after facing his own share of ups and downs. And there is a story of someone who has little or no knowledge about analytics, yet could make use of her insane laughter kindle the funnier side of serious analytics colleagues.

Being a daughter of a Merchant Navy veteran and having grown up in New Delhi, I come from a background of self-reliant living.
As a child, I was never afraid to sign up for new experiences. As the years have passed by, I have become this crazy medley of left and right brain; you’ll find me engaged in diametrically opposite things on any given day. Working long hours a day and still pursuing other interests, I am your typical “Energizer Bunny”.
I knew I wanted to make Analytics my career path during my internship with IIM Ahmedabad in December 2010 while I was pursuing electrical engineering at NIT. I was ecstatic when I landed my first job at MuSigma – talk about being at the right place at the right time!
Priyanka Chopra happens to be my favourite actress; I find her very ambitious, fearless and hard-working. I love how Priyanka has broken barriers of geography and stereotypes of skin color and gender, paving the way for women around the world. I love her confidence.

My team and I just wrapped up CYPHER 2016 – The second edition of our Analytics Summit – and I’m utterly overjoyed, to say the least.
The event was a stellar success; we ended up hosting more than 450 analytics professionals, including prominent leaders and evangelists. Today, I can proudly claim that CYPHER has become one of the most exciting analytics summits in India.
I remember starting my journey in analytics with little knowledge of the subject; I was then working at Infosys and our division was assigned an analytics project from a large retail company. Call it a stroke of luck, the project got assigned to me. I can recall being nervous about it, but little did I know that this project would change my life on so many levels. By the time I was done with the project, I realized that analytics was going to be my future. I dived right into the ocean! After my stint at Infosys, I took on roles specific to BI and analytics with several organizations.
But I wanted to do more…in 2012, I started the property Analytics India Magazine, with an aim to develop a community of analytics professionals across India and enable sharing of ideas and discussions. Analytics India Magazine is now an information powerhouse with more than 150 authors. The magazine has developed a large following since its inception.
Outside of work, I am a hardcore music nut. I have performed in a band and written for several leading music magazines. This writing experience was, in fact, the catalyst that led to the creation of Analytics India Magazine! Read more on Humans of Analytics
