However, Anuj is one of those few people who took cognizance of the ecommerce boom in India and entered this sector with much fanfare.
His journey towards success started B.Com in commerce from Delhi University. Afterwards he went on to become a CA (Chartered Accountant). Throughout his career as CA, he took upon several jobs, which gave him much needed credence, until finally he took the plunge in the entrepreneurship. Ezshopy is the leading destination for online grocery shopping in Delhi with more than 5000 Products like pulses, oil, rice, baby care etc. His startup, eZShopy already has managed more than 150 registrations within a month of inception.
Please provide a brief overview of your product/ service.
eZShopy is the brand owned by MAP Online Marketplace Pvt Ltd , under this brand we offer the best in class delivery of daily usage products like Grocery, Personal Care , Baby Products , Beverages etc. Currently we are operational in Delhi and soon will be launching our services in NCR region of Gurgaon , Faridabad & Noida.
We are an inventory less model and have tie ups with suppliers, hence pass on the discounts to the end consumers . Currently we have a portfolio of ~2000 products and soon this will increase to around 7,000 Products.
Our vision is to be world class in service delivery , and to achieve the same we are using the combo of :
1) Technology – We have automated the complete order management , Delivery management using handled to suppliers reconciliations. Now we are using technology into evaluation and faucets consumer buying habits and forecast the demand .
2) Soft Skill Training’s to the Delivery Employees . Since Delivery staff is the face of our organization, its very essential that they go through a proper soft skill training’s of how to handle the exceptional situations while dealing with the end customers
What inspired you to build the above product/ service?
There are a lot of factors that inspired to get into this category event though its a low margin portfolio .
1) The product category chosen is something which everyone procures at least 2-4 times in a month.
2) There are very limited discounts available currently in this category of the products by the Local stores.
3) Grocery shopping is becoming a tedious exercise week on week , with very less parking space and too much of traffic on roads and long queues in the big departmental stores.
And in the last 2-3 years players like Flipkart , Snapdeals etc have already ensured that the consumer is not afraid to buy online , so Grocery shopping is the next big shift in the purchasing habbit of the consumer waiting to be explored and exploded.
Indian Unorganized retail market is ~500BN$. Out of this the predictions are that ~10% of the market wil shift to organized online purchase of grocery and daily usage items
What is your life mantra?
I have 2 Life mantras :
First : Always be Happy .
Human mind has a great potential , the key to it is happiness .
Second : Never drool to much on the End Goal . Thats something you will receive at the end of the journey , but along the way enjoy the journey and focus all your energies in enjoying the same and channelizing your energies to put in the best possible efforts .
What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?
Personally -Convincing my Wife that I have gone bonkers and am leaving my 15 years of service behind and starting form scratch again.
Professionally – Setting up the team while I was still working with my last organization.
How did you overcome those challenges?
Planning , Planning & Planning
I used to get up at 5 in the morning , plan my day ( my interview schedules , my set up tasks etc). Work for my organization form 7-4 . and then in the evening do the stuff that I had planned in the morning to be completed at the end of the day. So I had Big Project Plan , which had milestones , and then it was further broken down into daily activities tracker.

Currently its Bootstrapped by myself and my family.
How do you protect yourself from the problem of Brain Drain?
My experience in working with world class organization has thought me that employees leave because of 2 things :
1) Bad Manager
2) Monotony in the work
We have deliberately ensured that the HR policies that we will follow in our organization are very much people centric , so that we do not make this a bureaucratic organization.

One most important lesson that you have learnt till now:
You need to hard decisions , you cannot linder on with the decisions We had hired couple of misfits , and have given them warnings in the past , but never took the hard stand of releasing them form the organization .
What it meant eventually was that we lost 2 months in the development cycle of the Mobile App . This time is very crucial in any startup business and one should not shy away from taking harsh decisions
What are your plans for next 3 years?
- Immediate launch the services covering whole of NCR , with daily orders increasing to 1,000 Per day.
- BIG DATA usage to understand the behavior of the customers and accordingly provide the products and services at the right time and the right price to the customer.
- Launch to other TIER I Cities and increase the order transactions to 10,000 daily by Q3 ‘ 16.
- Increase the product & Service portfolio and launch the services to the TIER II & III Cities.
If you get a chance to start your career again what would you do differently this time?
Only one change I would like to do is pursue MBA rather than CA.
