Jewellery is more than just an accessories for a woman; they are the mirror of her personality can speak of her emotion and can define her mood as well. Suptotthita Neogi lives her life by these words. She is highly passionate about design and jewellery in particular. Just after completing her Graduation from university of Calcutta, she pushed herself towards her dream, but was met with a hurdle.

Belonging from a conservative Bengali family, she found it hard to quit a good job to start a business. However, she always wanted to start her own venture and used to participate in entrepreneurial workshops and seminars when she was a student. She gave her the required push needed for attaining success. At Ornativa.com every customer can expect style and elegance at a very affordable price. Within a span of few years, she has turned the fortunes of the company she started. Currently she is looking to expand the operation of her startup and achieve bigger heights.

Please provide a brief overview of your product/ service.

Ornativa is the realization of dream to change the way fashion jewelleries are bought and sold online. Ornativa is Fashion Jewellery Brand designed to become the market leader in Web based sales of unique designer fashion jewellery & accessories with a strong focus on quality, affordability & reach. We have in-house designers this allows us to be quick to market with new contemporary designs for jewellery, while maintaining strict control on quality and finish. We provide the real jewellery look at the price of artificial one.

We understand that how difficult it is to find out the right jewellery to go with specific dress. So, to solve this problem we are going to launch 2 services very soon. One is customizable products, in which our customers can customize their product according to their own taste and choice. And other one is Personal stylist, where our customers can get personalized style tips from us.

What inspired you to build the above product/ service?

I always knew that the 9 to 5 jobs were not my cup of tea and always wanted to do something on my own. I even used to participate in entrepreneurial workshops and seminars when I was a student.

One of my childhood friends, Nabarun Chakrabortty, who is also my co-founder, was a jewellery designer and has the same mentality like me i.e., he also wanted to start his own business. Eventually he worked for Bluestone.com for some time. And I was an immense fashion lover. So we decided to start a designer fashion jewellery brand together. We started it on March 2014.

What is your life mantra?

No matter what come in your way be positive and just do your work by giving it your 100%.

What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?

Online jewellery is a fairly nascent category in India, and the key challenge is to establish online as an option that consumers should consider when they plan to buy jewellery. We faced many challenges beginning with getting right manufactures and partnering with them. We slowly learnt the nuances of the business right from managing stock photography to convincing courier companies to partner with us.

Me & my co-founder invested all our personal savings around 10 lacs together. This literally made us bankrupt. At one point of time we did not left any money even to buy our food or to pay the house rent.

How did you overcome those challenges?

Nabarun need to get back to his job to support the company expenses.

Share some details about the investments that you have been able to fetch for the business till now.

Our company is self-funded till now. Me & my co-founder invested around 10 lacs together. We are discussing our business plan and idea with some investors and hope to raise fund soon.

Evernote – For taking down all my important data, schedule and notes. Flipboard – To read all the important news, stories and blogs, etc.

To do lists. Before going to bed every day I make lists for the next day.

I am a late riser and also go to bed very late. But I am trying hard to change this habit.
