"Do one thing every day that makes you grow as a person."

Supriya Paul a young soul dared to start this unique storytelling platform, JoshTalk with her zeal to feel inspired and do something productive. Her friend acted as co-founder and they created this big online stage of inspirational stories. At first, a big event was staged in Delhi, which turned out to be a great success and one thing she knew after that was- I have to do it. This is how JoshTalk came into being.

The Delhi based Startup has a unique concept, which is more than storytelling. It’s about sharing tales of courage, struggle and beating hardships. Supriya, a determined lady represents the young brigade of Indian entrepreneurs who believe in novelty and consistency. While pursuing a vision of her own, she remains enthused about experimenting every day and grow with each risk taken or beaten. Read our interview with this enterprising young lady to learn more.

Please provide a brief overview of your product/ service.

Josh Talks is a platform that aims to ignite passion in you. We call speakers from diverse backgrounds of art, sport, entrepreneurship, social activism, stand-up comedy and more onto one stage, to share with an audience, their life experiences covering the obstacles they overcame onto their journey to success.

What inspired you to build the above product/ service?

Josh Talks is built on the belief that people with a passion can change the world. The inspiration was drawn from unconventional people and their journey’s and the idea was to become a platform for them to share their own personal story, in order to inspire the listener ie the audience to take action in his/her own life. We also realized that there was no such platform which was specifically targeting the youth (ie in the age group of 16-25), we saw an opportunity and that’s when our story began.

What is your life mantra?

I’m only 22 so I haven’t got this figured out yet, but I would say, don’t be after finding your goal, purpose, calling in life. Give it time and let it come to you. Live every day in the moment.

What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?

Josh Talks is a very unconventional business, the toughest part has and always will be to get people to sponsor us and our events.

How did you overcome those challenges?

The challenge I spoke about was sponsorship, we are still in the process of overcoming it, but we have made headway by changing our approach, modifying our pitch, using alternative ways to reach the right person and being honest about the deliverables.

Share some details about the investments that you have been able to fetch for the business till now.

Raised seed funding to get started.

How do you protect yourself from the problem of Brain Drain?

We give every individual the right to make decisions which will directly impact the company as a whole. When they feel they are directly responsible, and they are in a position of power, they do not feel the need to leave. We also spend a lot of time in inculcating trust amongst each which helps in building relationships.

According to you, what are the three qualities an individual must have to achieve success?

Must be consistent. Must be honest. Must have the drive to be successful.

Which online tools/ services/ apps do you use the most and would like to recommend as well?

Canvas (for all my temporary graphic needs), Twitter (biggest conversation starter) & Facebook (life doesn’t exist without it). For business-specific purposes-, Google drive and Sheets as well.

Share any one habit which you think makes you more productive.

Not the most conventional answer, but Guilt. Being guilty of not doing enough, speeds up my efficiency and makes me complete my daily list of tasks.

Share any one habit which you wish to change in yourself.

Need to become an early riser and start working early.

Answer in less than 50 words

• One tip to success:

Be consistent, in anything and everything you do.

• One mistake you believe every individual must avoid:

Leaving something midway. If you start something, always take it to its logical conclusion.

• One most important lesson that you have learnt till now:

Don’t keep trying to find your calling in life, keep experimenting and one day, it’ll automatically strike you.

What are your plans for next 3 years?

We are introducing a Josh Youth Programme, which allows individuals to become license holders and conduct independent Josh events within their campus. This not only puts them in a position of high responsibility but also allows them to work on different departments and grow holistically as an individual, moving beyond just college oriented education and getting a whiff of other practical things. We are also starting monthly meetups in the form of informal and personalized conversations
between the speakers and the audience, to inculcate collaboration and creation amongst the attendees. In the next 3 years, Josh should be a name that every individual between the age group of 16-25 should know of. We also hope to become a household name like TED soon :)

If you get a chance to start your career again what would you do differently this time?

I’ve actually switched a lot of streams, a lot of options and then got into Josh, and I think experimenting, actually gave me a lot of clarity in what I wanted and didn’t want at all. Therefore, I would not do anything differently. Maybe, start earlier, not wait for the last year of college, to take decisions.
