"Do what your heart says. Take risk once in life."

Randeep is an IIT postgraduate with more than 6 years of experience in product design, manufacturing, management and development. He started his career as an engineer trainee and slowly worked his way up to become the assistant manager as JSW Steel Ltd. With all these years of expertise under his belt, he started to ponder upon the idea to start something on his own. During this time, the boom in the e-commerce industry also captured his attention.

After brainstorming with his friends, he decided to venture into cab sharing services. This is where Zoomot was launched. Zoomot Services brings a revolutionary and noble way of Cab Sharing (Cool Share) concept in Mumbai-Navi Mumbai-Thane region. For the first time, city commuters will be able to book a seat and not the entire cab. Randeep is a Stalwart of making a change in how businesses are run.

What inspired you to build the above product/ service?

Co-founders Navneet, Youmit and Randeep have a combined experience of over 17 years in Steel industry. Incidentally, in February this year, they happened to be at same unit having nearby workstations. Millions of ideas cropped during the occasional tea and lunch breaks over better capacity utilization of resources. Youmit being an electronics freak came up with this idea of applying sensors for sensing seat occupancy anywhere like in theatres, library, vehicles etc.

We developed a prototype. When we realized that how this prototype can be used for better capacity utilization across services. Carpooling was not feasible and practical due to different office leaving time. This was the Eureka Moment when we decided to come up with the idea to apply seat occupancy sensors to support car sharing in an organized way.

What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?

Technology is the core of our Start-up. Building a team and Hiring was initially a big challenge. Again, since we are managing our fleet, fleet management was one area of concern. Visibility and Market presence is one big challenge we are working on.

How did you overcome those challenges?

Over the time, we have streamlined our operations and getting good tractions and presence at present. Tying up with good institutes helped us in hiring. We got a lot of support through our own network. With proper contract management and benefits, we have been able to control our fleet. Going forward, we need to work aggressively on digital marketing and promotional mix.

Share some details about the investments that you have been able to fetch for the business till now.

We bootstrapped for the initial 3 months for prototyping phase. Then we got seed funded in Aug 2015. We are looking forward to initiate series A funding for further expansion.

How do you protect yourself from the problem of Brain Drain?

As we believe for any start-up, Employees have to be developed and empowered in a short span of time. That way their responsibility as well as growth increases exponentially. Hence, we are not the one who chases high qualifications and experiences. This is why in our organization everyone has definite KRAs and they are the sole owner of their area. Everyone is aligned with our vision and mission. Employees are highly motivated despite the certain challenges associated with start-up. We have created an open environment in our office at Powai. We ensure that everyone is heard of during the weekly review meeting. Employees come with wonderful feedbacks and ideas. We ensure occasional hang-outs with our team.
