Age is the never the factor for anyone to follow their dreams. As technology becomes the core of all our social engagement, entrepreneurs are being born right out of the college. Mayank Goyal is one such visionary who has managed to enter the entrepreneurial arena before even completing his college. Currently studying BE in Civil Engineering, Mayank is known to be full of vigor and desire to climb the ladder of success.

His startup, mykitap.in aims to disrupt the second-hand books sector. It is a streamlined platform for anyone to buy and sell their used books. Within a span of one year, the platform has gained huge appreciation from used across India. It has created immense buzz with an annual turnover of 5-6 lacs.

Please provide a brief overview of your product/ service.

Mykitap.in is dedicated to providing people a hassle-free platform where they can buy as well as can sell used or second-hand books.

What inspired you to build the above product/ service?

In India, there are many people who are fond of reading books. However, not many of them are regular in reading books because the new books are costly. In spite of the presence of some big players in the Indian Online book selling market, there is no one big name which deals in selling and buying old books of a varied genre. Presently, people have a limited option with some very rare old bookstores within a city where they live.

Due to time constraints, not many people are able to visit traditional old book markets (like Khajuri Market in Indore). Even if they do, it involves a lot of hassles, and bargaining, which we believe the modern urban population would like to avoid.

What is your life mantra?

If you can think it, you can do it.

What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?

Most challenging part of our journey is to convince a user to try our service, as people are afraid of buying second-hand books online because they were not sure about the quality and condition of the book they are receiving.

How did you overcome those challenges?

We categorised books according to condition in three categories such as “as good as new”, “moderately used”, “old and used” so user has the option to buy which quality he wants.

Share some details about the investments that you have been able to fetch for the business till now.

Currently, we are bootstrapping and looking up for investment to scale up.

What are your plans for next 3 years?

For next 3 year, we have planned to expand yourself across tier 1 and tier 2 and tier 3 cities and planning to expand yourself to many new categories apart from books.

If you get a chance to start your career again what would you do differently this time?

I am happy with what I have started and be happy is the key to success, so I would always like to do something anything that will give self-satisfaction to myself.

My home, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, gandtoke
