With a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from R.A. Podar College in Mumbai, Kartik secured a Level 1 Gamification certification from Stanford and Level 2 from Gabe Zichermann – the foremost authority on gamification. He designed a Gamification program for civil participation at the Ecolympics, Moscow to encourage participation in civil activities.

Being an entrepreneur at heart, Kartik conceptualized Appie, which is a real-time wingman for every customer. It showcases everything available to consumers in their locality, it knows what they need and empowers them to get it easily and conveniently and transparently.

Please provide a brief overview of your product/ service.

Ours is an on-the-go real time intuitive and interactive app for shopping and local discovery

 What inspired you to build the above product/ service?

The inefficiency of the commerce ecosystem and the chaos that ensued in the name of disruption created a space for a product that was based on partnership and technology. This enables and becomes a part of consumers lives that solves real life problems on-the-go in the real world with real people.

 What is your life mantra?

Simplicity is a function of profoundness

 What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?

Building the right team that feels just right.

 How did you overcome those challenges?

It was an interactive process and giving people some space to completely bring themselves to work that is free from their earlier inhibitions and constraints.

 Share some details about the investments that you have been able to fetch for the business till now.

I attempted a couple of startups, in the college community and online investment space, during my earlier college days around 1999 and 2000. That time being from Business background people couldn’t believe I could pull it off and it was time to manage family responsibilities. So fast forward those responsibilities left me in a comfortable space plus I built up a corpus that this time one could not question my ability to build a tech product. Because this time the product speaks. So we bootstrapped so far and built a substantially large product.

 How do you protect yourself from the problem of Brain Drain?

Just build interesting things that aspiring brain wants to contribute to. Growth and Innovation are the best magnets.

 According to you, what are the three qualities an individual must have to achieve success?

  • Perseverance.
  • Curiosity
  • Leadership.

Which online tools/ services/ apps do you use the most and would like to recommend as well?

One size doesn’t fit all – for currently available technology…

We use many software’s but find the following very useful:

  • Google for work
  • Slack for communication and internal collaboration issues
  • Clevertap for notifications and behaviour analysis
