"Be the best you, you can be"

Hans-Kristian Bjerregaard started his career by working at Unisport A/S as a developer. There, he improved his software development and web development skills. Soon after that, he started working as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Copenhagen, where he taught Algorithm and Programming languages courses. In the midst of his career, he educated himself in Computer Science from Københavns Universitet. Being an entrepreneur at heart, he founded Clerk.io, which an intelligent personal shopper for ecommerce stores that helps consumers to find the perfect product through search, recommendations, and more.

Please provide a brief overview of your product/ service.

Clerk.io is an intelligent personal shopper for ecommerce stores. Clerk.io knows the consumer and helps them find the perfect product through search, recommendations, emails and advertising.

What inspired you to build the above product/ service?

Before starting Clerk.io I worked 5 years at unisportstore.com – one of the leading soccer stores in Europe. I discovered how difficult it was for consumers to find products in online stores. Even though the store had the product, but still more than a third of all visitors left just because they could not find it. So combining that problem with my Bachelor in Machine Learning I came up with a new set of algorithms to predict customer intent from their first entry point in the store. This is today the core of Clerk.io

What is your life mantra?

Be the best you, you can be!

What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?

The hardest part has been scaling the organization with growth while keeping profitable. Being bootstrapped means that you have to learn from your mistakes a lot quicker.

How did you overcome those challenges?

Persistence is the key to any business. I have been lucky to always succeed with the endeavors I throw myself at. Not because I was better than others – it’s just not in my nature to quit.

According to you, what are the three qualities an individual must have to achieve success?

Focus, Integrity and Persistence

Which online tools/ services/ apps do you use the most and would like to recommend as well?

We have a big outbound sales team and close.io is a fantastic tool for them. It’s literally praised by every sales person we hire.

Meetings and emails are banned from my life. Having an empty inbox and most days without meetings gives you time to work on important matters.

Share any one habit which you wish to change in yourself.

I would like to be better at seeing the bigger picture. Sometimes a bad week or month can distract you from the fact that your quarterly or yearly growth still is amazing.

Answer in less than 50 words

One tip to success:

Don’t give up. You only lose when you choose to give up.

One mistake you believe every individual must avoid:

Don’t lose integrity. Always be the better person – even when others are unfair.

One most important lesson that you have learnt till now:

Always try to be better than you were yesterday. If you improve yourself by just 1% every day that accumulates to an x40 improvement every year.

What are your plans for next 3 years?

Growth! We triple our revenue every year while being profitable and the goal is to continue this growth.

If you get a chance to start your career again what would you do differently this time?

Absolutely nothing!

What are your top three getaway destinations?

The nearest coffeeshop, my home and Rome (my second home).
