Tinku is a technology evangelist with an expertise in java, algorithm and programming. He has a B.Tech in biomedical/ medical engineering. In the age of material growth, technology driven mindset is taking away humanism from this world. Can we use same technology for promoting humanism? With this question in mind, Tinku Singhal started Saavan for promoting poetry with the help of technology. A graduate of IIT Kanpur, he always tries to create simple seamless solutions with innovative use of technology and creativity of human heart. His latest venture Saavan is a platform where different people with common interest in poetry can come together and share their poetry.

Please provide a brief overview of your product/ service.

Saavan is a user-driven platform for you to read and share poetry. It is an online community of people with common interest in poetry. We proudly call Saavan a “Facebook for poets” where we try to imbibe interactivity of Facebook with creativity of poets. As a young community of poets, we aspire to grow and became a most loved platform for poetry. At Saavan, you can weave a personal network on the World Wide Web with countless readers and potential friends. We are very proud of the friendly, supportive and welcoming community it has become.

What inspired you to build the above product/ service?

Idea was there in mind from my first year in college when I struggled to find a good online community of Indian poets. People used to share poetry either on social networking websites or on their personal blog; and both of these platform have their own drawbacks with respect to poetry. Last year when I had some free time, I decided to give it a try and with continuous 18 hours of work, I was able to design beta version of the website and Saavan became live!

What is your life mantra?

When you are designing a solution, be simple because simplicity is sustainable as well as consume less resources; and these two aspects are critical for growth of any new endeavor.

What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?

Most of the poets in India are not technology friendly. Apart from this, lack of availability of high speed internet with our users is also a limiting factor for us. We worked on both of these challenges and tried to solve these problems with our simple approaches. We started accepting poems for publication at Saavan through social networking websites too. Apart from this, we designed our website with special focus on speed and made as light as possible with all required features for our users.

How did you overcome those challenges?

When you start something, there is always a risk of failure. We can only anticipate and plan for the journey but outcome is never sure. Before starting anything new, I generally plan according to the resources available to take risk. For Saavan, seed capital was not huge and fortunately with better planning starting was not a serious affair.

Apart from developing online interactive community of poets in major Indian languages, we are working of developing poetry resources in artistic style. In next few years, people can enjoy poetry in text, audio and video forms at Saavan. In few years, Saavan would be synonymous for poetry in India.
